Making Content

submitted by Rowan Merewood last modified 2006-02-07 14:31

An introduction to your personal area of WHIG and what you can do with it.

Adding content is a straightforward process with just a few steps. Here's a quick overview of the concepts and then there are all the details later on.

  1. Pick the type of resource you want to add.
  2. Fill in the form to create it.
  3. Save your new resource.
  4. Add some properties to the resource.
  5. Save your progress.
  6. Submit your resource for publication.

Every member has their own personal folder where they can make contributions to WHIG. This folder is your own customisable section of the site and you can arrange it to suit you. This area is accessible to you when you are logged in by following the my folder link under the tabs at the top of the page.

When you're in this area a green border will appear around the page with various tabs and options allowing you to control your content. The tabs along the top are:

  • contents: This will give you a file manager view of your folder. You can add, delete, cut, or copy your resources.
  • view: This is the the view that everyone else sees when they look at your resource.
  • edit: This gives you access to the form to make changes to your resource.
  • properties: This gives you access to some extra information about your resource, things such as copyright, keywords, and so on.
  • sharing: If you would like to make the resource available for editing by other people or a group.

Underneath the tabs are the options to change the resource your currently looking at or add a new one to that folder. Each one will drop-down to show you the choices you can make:

  • actions: This will let you cut, copy, paste, or delete the current resource.
  • display: By default, each folder displays a list of the items it contains. You can change this to something different by trying some of the options here.
  • add item: This gives you the list of different resource types you can add to WHIG. Take a look at the help listing to find out a bit more about them.
  • state: Initially, all your resources start as "private". Use this drop down to "submit" a finished resource for publication making it visible to everyone else on the site. Some resources you can publish directly, without the need to submit them.
